This had been identified as Perry's sawmill on the coast between Colac Bay and Orepuki by the donor's family. Written on reverse: Perry's sawmill on the coast between Colac Bay and Riverton. Andrew Perry sitting on the front right.Early 20th Century.
The Owaka Museum has an original copy of the photo and have identified it as Bates & Co. Sawmill at Houipapa in the Catlins [Object no. CT78.1001a.5]. See their record for further information. Men identified in photo as, from left, Albert Brough, Peter Grenole, G Harvey (hand on horse), Mat Miller, R Deveruex, Andy Perry.
