Biographical / Historical

Ronald Manson Weston (1922 - 1998, WWII NZ6084) born in Invercargill, was the son of one of the founders of funeral directors Macdonald and Weston Ltd.

He applied for the flying services in 1941 and joined the Air Fleet Arm, travelling from New Zealand to England via Panama, then trained in the UK, Scotland and Canada before becoming a pilot. He had the rank of sub-lieutenant and piloted Avenger torpedo bombers in the Pacific theatre from 1942 to 1945.

He was a board member of the YMCA for more than 20 years, on the Invercargill Borstal Parole Board 1966 to 1972, Southland High Schools' Board 1975 - 1978, board member of Presbyterian Support Services for more than 30 years, board member of the Southland Savings Bank 1973 - 1978, a long serving member of the Rotary Club, and a life member of the Funeral Directors' Association of New Zealand.
