West Gore School

West Gore School was established in 1953 when post-war population growth meant the existing primary school accommodation in the town was insufficient. West Gore School was then built in the south western area where more land was being sub-divided for housing sites. The first headmaster was Mr. Edward Mason.

By 1960, a further six classrooms had been added to the original four classroom school. They formed a second block parallel to the first. Over time further renovations have occurred including, new lighting, carpet, new toilets and covered walkways. A hall was erected and new playground equipment. In 1998 the junior and admin block was renovated.

Fundraising events over the years have included the Bring and Buy Fair and Card Evenings. School picnics were held at Dolamore Park and when Forms 1 and 2 still attended there were camps at Deep Cove. Other memories include Agricultural Clubs, inter-school sports and trips by bike to the Municipal Swimming baths.

The school continues in 2019.
