Riverton Primary School
In 1973 Riverton District High School closed with seperate primary and secondary schools opening. The new Riverton Primary School was built just north of the old District High (now Aparima College).
It featured, new to the time, classrooms with a open plan design which included large spaces where several classes could be taught at the same time.
The first Principal was Mr Roger Gadd from the North Island, followed by Mr Peter McGurk. Special-needs classes were introduced, as well as many cultural activites such as the Music Festival. The school is still in operation in 2019 with principal Tim Page.
