Significant events and Club name changes are recorded in this draft of the Club History. 1871: Bluff Regatta January 1871, the earliest recorded event. Regattas were held on New Year's Day 1877, 1878, 1880 and included whlaeboat races. 1887: Combined Opening of Invercargill Rowing Club and Invercargill Sailing Club, held in October. 1888: AGM of Invercargil Star Sailing Club. 1st Regatta 2/03/1882. 1890's, end of:Invercargill Regatta Society formed. Membership numbers down. 1904: Invercargill Sailing Club formed. 1906: Regatta with first Motor Launch race. 1912: Regatta with Launch and Yacht races. 1929: Meeting to revivie Invercargill Sailing and Motor Boat Club 16 December. 1930: Southland Yachting Assn formed - the co-ordinating body for sailing in Southland. Frank Biggs 1st President. 1932: First Staging, to hold 16 small baots begun. Built by working bees. Wrecked in the storm June 1958. 1933: Yacht Clubs in Bluff, Riverton and Fortrose.
