Biographical / Historical
The train ticket is from the royal visit to New Zealand by Queen Elizabeth and Duke of Edinburgh 1953/54.
On the 27th/28th January 1954 as a 13 year old student of Waipahi School we were taken to Clinton to see the Queen and Duke, I was fortunate to be standing where the royal car stopped to receive flowers so viewed them so well.
The next morning my fahter took me by a goods train leaving Waipahi at 6am for invercargill, I saw the Queen and Duke in Queens Park and on the balcony of the Grand Hotel on Dee Street.
The following day we travelled on train No. 4 Invercargill to bluff from where the Royal Party were farewelled and then departed on the Gothic.
