The Five-Day Band...The Invercargill Tramways Band was formed on 19th December 1914 by five Invercargill bandsmen who were motormen and conductors on the trams. wearing their tramways uniforms, they played carols for five days, to collect [pounds]5.14.6d for the Belgium Relief Fund. Before disbanding, they had their photograph taken, one copy being printed and framed for each member. This, the only surviving print, was presented to the Garrison Band in 1967 by Mrs Waters of Avenal Street, widow of Archie Water the flugelhorn player. Note Alf Ginn's peculiar instrument.
