Dear Dorothy, I received your air letter card dated 9th March, a couple of days ago and was very pleased to hear from you. As you will see I have a new address and now a corporal, the job is a good one, and like you I am now living at the hospital. I am in charge of the vehicles at our No5 General Hospital which is in Helwan, which is quite a nice little town about nine miles from Maadi. I am living in the “Winter Palace”, which used to be a hotel, and have good quarters, situated in nice grounds. We even have a concrete pool (with fountain) full of goldfish, there are dozens of them, and all sizes. How are you liking the night duty, I suppose you will be

on a different shift by now. I had a letter from Mum, along with yours, she said she was going up to stay with Frances, for a day or two. How is Hugh doing these days, I suppose he is out of hospital by now. How are things going with this Eddie of yours, Mum doesn’t seem to be too keen on him, is he much older that you are. I have a couple of mates, who both say they are coming home to see you, they have seen your photo. Give my regards to Mr and Mrs Stevens and also Betty, next time you see them. I hope you had a good time at Queenstown for Easter, it is a nice place to go to, I will be off up there myself for a look round, when I get back. Last night I went to the pictures in the theatre just opposite the hospital, and saw “Tales of Manhattan”, tonight I am going to see “When Johnny Comes Marching Home”, and
