Biographical / Historical

When Scheelite mining brought an influx of population into Campbelltown and Glenorchy, a request was made in 1910 for the provision of a school to cater for both communities.

The site selected was near the mouth of the Buckler Burn and the school opened in 1911. Encroachment by the stream caused the school's removal to a new site in 1939. By 1942 an extension was required. A teacher residence was provided in 1946. Extra accommodation was rented as required by the fluctuating roll (the local hall in 1952, a house in 1971-2). A new school building was finally opened in 1973 and the old building used as a junior classroom.

A list of teachers 1911 to 1983 is on page 10.
