Biographical / Historical
Located on four hectares off Opio Road, the hall was originally the school building for the district, opening as Wairio North School in 1888 and renamed as Opio School in 1894. When the school closed in 1938 it became a community hub for dances, euchre evenings, cabarets and functions. It was also used as a gym, voting booth, and for table tennis and badminton. It was sold in 2020.
