TRACK One
00:00 Interview identification. Born 30 June 1925.
01.50 When DIVORCED, self and sons went to LIVE WITH MOTHER. Then had a LIVE IN POSITION at the HOSTEL at AWARUA RADIO in the late 1950s. Cooked for all the single men, and some of the married men at lunch times. Cooked for up to 20 people.
03.00 Was employed during the INTERNATIONAL GEOPHYSICAL YEAR (IDY). People from all over the world studying the AURORA. Had an installation on Bluff Hill.
03.30 Ordered food from grocer shop at WOODEND, with some catering from Invercargill. Staff car used for delivery. Sandwiches and scones made.
05.30 Made BREAKFAST, scones for morning tea. Cooked a MID DAY MEAL, then cold meat and potatoes for EVENING MEAL.
06.40 TRICKS played on self by the staff. Describes.
07.20 SINGLE MEN mostly young. IDY staff were there for all meals, and took their own lunches if they left the site. Roasts once or twice a week, and stews etc. provided. Variety of PUDDINGS, including custards, jellies, stewed fruit, tarts, steamed puddings.
09.30 LAUNDRY processed off site, self had to count sheets etc. before laundry left and when returned.
10.00 Men treated the boys well when they were small. CHILDREN from the site caught the BLUFF TRAIN and went to CLIFTON SCHOOL.
10.50 Apart from three original cottages, no houses left. Cottages built by GERMAN PRISONERS OF WAR. FARM BUILDINGS remain. Describes.
12.20 Some houses had four bedrooms – six to ten new houses. BRIAN WEBB would have more information on this subject. Lives in Upper Hutt.
13.40 Self lost a lot of material when she moved in to Peacehaven.
14.30 Self met present husband while working at Awarua.

04.30 [Wedding photo of self and husband shown]. Married at KNOX PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH in Invercargill in the 1950s. WEDDING RECEPTION at Awarua Radio Station in the Social Hall. Dances were held in the hall. Husband a fisherman. Describes wedding outfit. Libby was a matron-of-honour. ? Adcock a best man. Husband has had a stroke.
