0.10 LEANNE MICHELLE HARTSTONGE

1.12 Born in TIMARU. Moved to LEE STREAM, 1 hour away from DUNEDIN.

1.43 Farm sold 9 years ago.

1.51 Went to LEE STREAM PRIMARY.

2.50 Went to see a DENTAL NURSE.

3.10 Went to ST HILDA’S boarding school in DUNEDIN.

3.20 Went to OTAGO UNIVERSITY for 13 years where she got her PhD.

4.16 Travelled ABROAD.

4.30 In 2002 moved to INVERCARGILL for SOUTHLAND DHB [District Health Board], left when merged with Otago.

6.00 on farm POSTMAN brought milk, paper. No one went far field. Sent children to the local school. Relied on neighbours for support – “community driven environment”.

7.40 Leanne and one other girl at primary school were eligible for BOARDING BURSARY.

8.19 Study at University started with PHYS ED (Physical Education) degree. Then changed in NUTRTION DEGREE and moved into research at medical school in CHRISTCHURCH (post myocardial infarction – following patients for 5 years).

10.41 Decided wanted to travel. Went to UK and stayed for 2.5 years working for Oxford University. Working in education for a multidisciplinary study.

12.50 Came back to NZ. Was offered the chance to do a DPhil in Oxford, but costs were prohibitive. “Time to come home”. Spent 2.5 months on her parent’s farm.

14.00 Offered job in INVERCARGILL. Policy analyst.

TRACK 2

0.15 Secured funding that enabled her to do her PhD. Completed in 2012. Intervention study in obesity prevention.

3.50 Moved to Glengarry in 2012. Had a lifestyle block out of town decided to relocate into town to make things easier. Didn’t like the idea of neighbours. Needed to find something that would work for two young children and 2 dogs.

6.30 Knew Glengarry as it was the closet neighbourhood shopping area from the lifestyle block. Good park close by.

7.30 Fabulous neighbours. Lived in the area a long time. Wanted to fit in with the community

8.00 Describes why she likes living in Glengarry. Loves the community spirit. Talks about how Glengarry compares to other places she has lived. Knows neighbours well.

11.40 Fire and Light Festival.

13.10 “Oblivious” to most of the negative comments
