Track 1

0.30 Born 2/10/1953 Invercargill, Father LUCIOUS TROUNSON, Mother PHYLLIS

1.25 Father worked for Invercargill City Council on a Road Steam Engine. Mother stayed at home looking after the children. 8 Children in total

2.25 Grew up in Newfield on Otaramika Road (now TWEED STREET)

2.55 1964 Moved to Riverton when father retired.

3.12 SCHOOLS: NEWFIELD SCHOOL and RIVERTON DISTRICT SCHOOL

4.02 Left school to go to Southland Technical College as he wanted to be a tradie.

6.18 Bus driver of free bus to town helped him learn to drive as payment for cleaning out the bus.

8.43 Got an APPRENTICESHIP at GILMOT WILKS AND DAVIDSON, now GW RUSSELLS on Yarrow Street.

9.30 10,000 hours to complete the apprenticeship.

11.00 Moved from apprenticeship to TIWAI SMELTERS. Pay on apprenticeship went from $14 per week to $28 per week. Went back to GW Russell after 18 months.

11.54 5 children and 11 grandchildren.

13.06 Went to BECK MARINE but was poorly paid then back to G.W. Russell

14.35 Moved to FREEZER WORKS in MAKAREWA.

Track 2

0.08 Worked in Casing Department in the freezing works.

0.37 One week he took home $1k clear in 1980.

1.17 He stayed 3 seasons before moving to the sawmill at Winton.

3.20 When he was a child he got into trouble jumping on train or standing on a bridge when the train went under.

4.31 Restoring his own car, a 1984 Pontiac Fiero.

5.25 Hobbies include fishing, duck shooting and house renovation.

7.00 Diagnosed with cancer July 2011

9.20 Surgeon examined him and told him had ANAL RECTAL CANCER

11.34 Surgery at SOUTHERN CROSS HOSPITAL.

12.00 Had radiotherapy in Dunedin before surgery to shrink tumour.

1.00 Had to go back to hospital to have CATHETER.

14.00 He was not well but dismissed by doctor and told to just take antidepressants.

14.25 Went to see Oncologists from Dunedin admitted to hospital as he had an abscess infection.

Track 3

0.07 In hospital for a week. 0.57 Took CHEMOTHERAPY PILLS

1.52 Had RADIOTHERAPY which was very painful

3.47 2 weeks on the drugs, 1 week off.

4.50 He had a sister who had breast cancer and had one removed.

6.17 On the days he had treatment he wanted to tell them 'to shove it'. He felt that the pain was not worth the cure.

7.00 Kept hair

8.51 He had to stop work as he was sick. His employer told him that they had gotten rid of his job so he has no job.

11.00 Looking forward to ending treatment. Finances have been tough.

11.30 DEAN FOGARTY from the Oncology Unit, counsellor, call around.

13.30 Takes his pills at home. He can ring the hospital at any time.

14.20 Has a STOMA nurse.

Track 4

0.01 Pastor’s care and his faith has helped him get through this.

0.45 He received a sizeable monetary gift from 2 people which has helped him financially.

4.00 Stayed at Cancer Society house when he went to Dunedin.

5.20 People stopped coming when he started to look well.

6.20 Emotionally harder than when he was very sick.

7.30 Did some DIY and gardening to keep occupied.

8.30 Did a film for SIT that plays on Kew TV.

11.40 Dean Fogarty got him into this project.

13.00 Not going to let cancer be the centre of his life.

0.00 Mention of abscess. (No other dialogue)

Track 6

0.12 Had an abscess. He prayed.

2.20 Woke up at hospital with pus and blood in his bed but no idea where it came from.

3.30 He felt God was asking him to pray for the man in the other bed, Gary.

5.08 Ray thinks it was a miracle but the surgeon thinks it was a spontaneous event.
