In this interview, Kathleen reflects on a happy childhood in Dunedin, shaped by a close family, church life, school experiences, and regular visits to relatives in Southland. She attended Tainui Primary School, was a foundation pupil at Queen’s High School, trained at Teachers College, and began her teaching career at Allanton Primary School. After marrying Adam Black in 1966, the couple settled in Tapanui and built a successful family life through farming, coal and wood delivery businesses, and a shared passion for John Deere tractors. Kathleen recalls Adam’s achievements, travels, community involvement, and her rewarding years working at the Tapanui Public Library until 1990.
