Overview In this interview Albie tells of his early life and education at Gummies Bush/Wild Bush; his employment history at the Dairy Factory and later on the Pest Board. He gives detailed descriptions of methods used for the eradication of rabbits. Albie went to war and tells of his involvement and experiences. He was a prisoner of war for two years. In 1975 he and his wife joined the Prisoner Of War Association tour through Europe.

Ken and his mother went to see his father off on the ‘Empress of Britain’ and met the Maori Battalion. Ken discusses the depression and farming practices he adopted and his views on farming. He looks at farming in the earlier days and now in his son James time.

Grocery, butchery and bakery deliveries were once a week. Mattie describes the effects of her mother breaking her leg, her father’s ill health and her brother Alister’s war service which lead to his death in the Solomon Islands.
