Biographical / Historical
It was the third of four buildings to be occupied by the Southland Times. The first building on Tay Street burned down in March 1864, with the second at the western end of Esk Street, burning down in July 1878.
The Times occupied this building from 1878 to when it moved into it's new premises further east along Esk Street in 1908 (see record S27550002).

Stamp on reverse of image names the photographer as Hart Campell & Co, Portrait & Landscape Photographers, Tay Street, Invercargill, N.Z. The photographer operated in Invercargill from c.1879-1886 therefore placing image in this time frame.
