Scope and Contents

Most likely taken near Tay Street looking towards Pleasure Bay which was on the east side of the Estuary at the end of Crinan Street, about where it intersects with Annan Street. The bush line in the distance is Otatara. The line of the Otepuni Creek can be detected running through the middle of the photo. The buildings on the right appear similar to the older buildings seen in photo 73, e.g. John Jones house and store at the corner of Tay, Dee and Clyde.

See caption Southland Times 9 Dec 1924, p.15: This is the foreshore of the estuary of the Waihopai as it was in 1863. The picture was taken from a high point near Pleasure Bay and looking in the direction of the river. The great part of this land to-day is occupied by extensive wool and grain stores.
