Biographical / Historical

The Southland Bowling Club was formed in 1880, with it's first premises situated on Leven Street, behind the Southland Club Hotel. A green was then constructed in the Public Reserve Gardens on the banks of the Otepuni Stream between Forth and Wood Streets in 1883. The first pavilion building was sold in 1906 and a single pavilion (pictured) was built. This had a second storey added in 1912. It was demolished in 1976 and a new pavilion was opened in 1978. It's location meant it was often prone to flooding. The club disbanded at the end of the 2020 season.
