Biographical / Historical
John Oman Percival Watt was born in Scotland and emigrated to New Zealand with his parents as a child in 1899. He had a long journalistic career with several newspapers and died in Invercargill in 1972 aged 75.
He has several published books in the library's local collection. They include: -- Centenary of Invercargill municipality, 1871-1971 -- Invercargill Middle School : centennial souvenir 1873-1973 -- The trial of Minnie Dean -- 100th anniversary of the Southland Building and Investment Society, 1869-1969 -- History of the Southland hospitals and board, 1861-1968 -- A century of summer shows -- Invercargill Fire Brigade, 1863-1963 -- Invercargill Marist 75th jubilee, 1897-1972 -- Preservation Inlet -- Southland's pioneer railways, 1864-1878
